‘Anora’ wins five Academy Awards, with ‘The Brutalist’, ‘Dune: Part Two’, ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Wicked’ also achieving multiple wins.
The winners of the 97th Academy Awards have now been announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles, hosted by Conan O’Brien.
The ceremony began with a stunning performance by Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who performed a medley of songs from The Wizard of Oz universe, including ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, ‘Home’ and, of course, ‘Defying Gravity’.
As is tradition, the winners from last year’s Oscars returned to present the awards in the category of the opposite gender to 2025’s winners.
Anora was the success of the night, taking home an amazing five awards, including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for star Mikey Madison, and Achievement in Directing for the film’s writer, director, producer and editor, Sean Baker. Sean Baker’s success saw him become the second person to claim four individual Oscars in one night – a feat only previously achieved by Walt Disney.
The Brutalist won three awards, with star Adrien Brody bringing home the win for Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez and Wicked all achieved two wins.
